DEFINING SUCCESS: How To Know You Are Successful

How are you defining success?

The worldly definition of success seems to be based off what accolades, awards and recognitions on can achieve at work. However, what if one never receives those types of recognitions or doesn’t hold a traditional job? Are they unable to be successful? I would argue that success isn’t about ticking off a list of accomplishments but a successful life is one lived with purpose.

So how do you do this?

  1. Know your Why, What, Who and How!
Why is important for you to be successful?
What does being successful look like to you?
Who are you striving to be successful for?
How do you achieve your definition of success?

  2. Place value on success that does not include monetary or positional importance.

Examples: Creating a hospitable home that welcomes family and friends, confidence, serving others, being a dependable friend, a strong marriage, loyal friendships, etc.

  3. Set goals with a outward focus.

I have found that when I look beyond myself and how I can help others, my confidence, feelings of self-worth and accomplishment soar! Strive to lift others up. Love your community, give of what you have whether that be time, talent or money.

Let’s stop narrowing down our definition of success to just our list of achievements or by what someone else is doing. Strive for the life God has for YOU! You may become known for who you are, but you will be remembered for what you DO! Let’s re-define being achieving success as living a purposeful and well-lived life.
